Statistics

The first Harrah Tahoe Championship Regatta, the only two-state competition in hydro history, will be held at Lake Tahoe Sept. 29-30 with prize money totalling $15,000. Plans are underway for a perpetual trophy. Unlimited hydroplanes will race over a three-mile south-shore course, bisected by the California-Nevada border.

Regatta plans were jointly announced by sponsor Bill Harrah, Reno and Tahoe sportsman, and the unlimited parent group, the American Power Boat Assn. Bill Stead, 1959 National and Gold Cup champion with the late William Waggoner's Maverick, is race meet coordinator. This is the first time since 1958 that unlimited hydroplanes have raced Tahoe.

The Reno Regatta, scheduled at Pyramid Lake for the third year, will be held again August 19-20, according to Charles W. Mapes, Reno sportsman.
